Nicole Shimonek is an interdisciplinary artist from Winnipeg, Canada. She has an MFA from the Chelsea College of Art and Design and BFA from the University of Manitoba. She has been an Artist in Residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada), Brompton Design District and with Bow Arts Trust (London, England). Other residencies include Plug In ICA’s Summer Institutes with Post Commodity; Assume Astro Vivid Focus and Trackings & Trappings.
Selected exhibitions include Live in the Centre: An Incomplete and Anecdotal History of Performance Art (Winnipeg Art Gallery), Unafraid (Plug In ICA), Syracuse Museum of Art, Gallery 1C03, at and with Urban Idea (Winnipeg). Her videos have screened at the Detroit Museum of New Art, Camden Roundhouse (London, UK), at Prairie Scene (Ottawa), Images Festival (Toronto) and with Studio 303 at the MAI (Montreal)
Nicole’s practice investigates survival experiences through materials; sculpture drawing performance, media and design.
